Ameh Agnes: A woman farmer of repute

As Nigeria continues on her mission towards the objective of becoming one of the most evolved countries in the globe especially in food production, an ever increasing number of ladies are assuming noticeable parts towards its acknowledgment.

And it is a fact that, more and more women in this country are making their marks in various spheres of human endeavor and one of the most noticeable among them is Ameh Agnes.

An exceptional and outstanding banker turned farmer, Agnes is a splendid and focused lady who is currently contributing heavily to the food production in the country.

Agnes belongs to the few new generations of Nigerian women who are proving a strong point that, given greater opportunity to serve, they will turn the country for the better.

Blessed with numerous great characteristics, Agnes has distinguished herself as a business person. Utilizing her inherent capacity because she has seen and put numerous jobless youth and women to work in her enterprises which prodded them to leave and have a significant, meaningful and purposeful lives.

Her objective in life is to apply a practical critical thinking way to deal with hierarchical difficulties with the end goal of bringing the truly necessary change through passionate service delivery according to the ethics of the farming profession of the country.

Agnes, one of my numerous intelligent and hardworking female Facebook friends who for long has an undying passion for farming but the circumstances and the environmental factors she found herself was not encouraging and that forestalled her dream of being a farmer from emerging.

Additionally, her friends did not help matters too, as they always deterred and discouraged her for needing to go into the homestead.

She needed to go into cultivating quite some time in the past. But as destiny demands, God answered her prayers because Agnes went into full-scaled farming in 2020 during Coronavirus era, during the time of sit at home.

The banker turned farmer made a very good use of the epidemic period and dive in and track down her direction to farming.

The melting point was when Agnes went to a village in Kubuwa, FCT and rented plots of land and started cultivating corn, beans and groundnuts.

In 2020, she bagged a post of a Progressive farmer by the APC from the then APC publicity Mr. Lanre Onilu.

In the year 2021, Agnes took her farming biz to her home state, Benue state where she started up another farm which was a milestone as she had planted 5,000 yam seeds which yielded positive results. As at now, Madam Agnes is into farming of so many farm produce.

No wonder why she is growing and achieving at the fast rate because from her youth to date, Agnes had shown herself to be a highly intelligent and intuitive person destined to leave indelible marks in the sands of time in her fatherland.

Amiable and unassuming Ameh Agnes was born on the 16th September, 1985 in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, she was first at the LEA Primary School, Agwodaba Okpo, Kogi State for First School Leaving Certificate before moving to Olamaboro Community Grammar School, Okpo, Kogi State for her Senior Secondary School Education.

Eager to achieve greater academic laurels, Agnes was at the Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Kogi State for her Nigeria Certificate on Education, (NCE), Economics/Political Science and was in the Faith Computer for a Diploma in Desktop Publishing.

To reach the zenith of her academic excellence, she was in Obafemi Awolowo University for her Bsc. Economics and was also in the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for her Msc in Business Education.

A high class officer, Ameh Agnes’ working career spans many years and cuts across various fields of human endeavor. And one good thing about her is that she used to give a very good account of herself wherever she had cause to serve.

She was at the First Bank Nigeria Plc, Igamu Orile, Lagos State and was also at the marketing section of the Murhi International Television, Alusa, Ikeja, Lagos. She was also the Head of Customer Service of the Fidelity Bank PLC, Adeyemo Alakija, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Ameh Agnes has through all those good years built an enviable reputation for herself among all the staffers she worked with. As she worked with minimal and no supervision and still provided results. She is innovative and good in communication skills. She is also a team player with human materials skills.

A member of a number of cultural and Non-Governmental Organizations, Agnes is the secretary of the Kugenga Unity Forum and she is presently the proprietress of the Osaagi feeds Nigeria limited.

Under the 2023 presidential campaign council (PCC), Agnes was nominated as member of Agro Commodities Directorate and New Media Directorates.

Vivacious, sociable and fun to be with, Agnes is married, blessed with kids and has reading and travelling as her hobbies.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
