“November 5th remains a deeply memorable day for many of us, as it marks the birthday of our mentor and role model, Malam (Sen.) Ibrahim Shekarau, whose influence has profoundly touched countless lives, including mine,” said Dr. Balarabe Umar Muhammad, Chief Medical Director of Abubakar Imam Urology Center, Kano.

According to him, Shekarau’s name has become synonymous with honesty, humility, and purposeful leadership because over the years, he has remained a beacon of hope, inspiring people of all ages through his unwavering commitment to humanity, education, and public service.

Dr. Muhammad stated that he was among the few who studied at Government College, Birnin Kudu, during the period when Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau served as principal, and that he personally witnessed how Shekarau mentored and nurtured many individuals who now occupy prominent positions across the country.

“His remarkable journey from a seasoned educator to a statesman reflects the true essence of commitment, hard work, and vision,” The Abubakar Imama Urology chief stated..

Malam (Sen.) Ibrahim Shekarau’s contributions to the development of Kano State and Nigeria at large cannot be overstated as according to the Urology Center boss, he was among those who received a scholarship to study in Russia after graduating from Government College, Birnin Kudu, an opportunity that shaped his academic and professional journey.

Dr. Balarabe U. Muhammad described Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau as a visionary leader who prioritized education, empowerment, and good governance, thereby laying a solid foundation for growth and progress wherever he served.

“His calm disposition, coupled with his wisdom and compassion, earned him the admiration and respect of people across different walks of life,” Dr. Muhammad further explained

The Abubakar Imam Urology boss further stated that “As we celebrate this special day, we join countless admirers and well-wishers in praying for his continued health, happiness, and fulfilment.”

He concluded with a heartfelt prayer to Almighty Allah to grant Sen. Shekarau continued good health and many more productive years of meaningful service and guidance to the society he has so selflessly served.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
