    Barau FC, please wake up.

An active team in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), Barau FC is presently participating in their inaugural season in 2025–2026.

In July 2025, following a victorious NNL Super Eight playoff, the squad was promoted to the NPFL.

Unfortunately, the team only managed to secure two points from four games out of the twelve points up for grabs in the NPFL, thus its performance is nothing to brag about.

The squad must act quickly to overcome its goal-shyness or risk going back to where it had just graduated from (God forbid).

The team’s technical department must stop the club’s goal and victory streak right now.

I heard Barau FC’s coach, Bosso, remark that he is unable to locate a decent goal scorer at this time since, in his opinion, they are all involved with or affiliated to another team. He also stated that he will use the people he met in the club.

I don’t think this is a smart remark since what would stop him from going elsewhere if all of Nigeria’s talented attackers were committed?

Additionally, the team’s defence needed to be upgraded with good defenders before the league progressed too far.

He’ll undoubtedly find better options to address his team’s goal-scoring and defence issues if he looks at our neighboring states such as Niger, Ghana, etc.

He should immediately ask scouts to assist him in finding three or even four talented and experienced players from these other nations to bolster his team, unless he has another goal, which I doubt.

Coach Bosso ought to be aware that waiting is risky, he must take the necessary action to prevent the squad from collapsing and his career from being ruined.

The club owner would undoubtedly support any effort or initiative to persuade his squad to deliver his message to the continental.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
