Jumai Hajara Adamu has been elected the new Lady Captain of Tukur Yusuf Buratai (TYB) International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja, following a decisive poll held at the clubhouse on Saturday.

Adamu polled an overwhelming 129 votes, defeating Rose Abus Nyam, who scored 22 votes, and the incumbent Lady Captain, Maureen Apute, who garnered 26 votes.

The landslide result drew applause from club members, who described the outcome as a clear endorsement of Adamu’s leadership vision and commitment to unity within the club.

Speaking after the announcement, Adamu gave glory to God, describing the victory as an act of divine grace and faith rewarded.

“I return all the glory to God Almighty. This victory is His doing, and I am deeply grateful to every member who believed in me,” she said.

Adamu pledged to lead with humility, inclusiveness, and dedication, promising to strengthen camaraderie and promote excellence among female golfers at the club.

“With God’s guidance, I will serve diligently, promote unity, and ensure that every lady golfer feels valued and inspired,” she added.

She also thanked the outgoing Lady Captain, Maureen Apute, for her service, noting that her administration laid foundations to be built upon.

Members of the club congratulated Adamu, expressing confidence that her tenure would usher in renewed energy and growth for the ladies’ section.

The election marks a new chapter for TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, as members look forward to progressive leadership and strengthened fellowship.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
