Alleged highhandedness: Kano Pillars chairman/mgt rifts taken to Government House

The speculative Kano Pillars Football Club chairman/management committee crisis that has been going on ever since the board was formed last June, is now unfolded as the secretary of the reconstituted management board has reportedly to have officially written a three page complaint letter and submitted to the office of the Secretary to the State Government.

This is no doubt supposed to be the time when the management needs to be organized, composed and united to manage the club well to win their upcoming league matches in the ongoing National Professional Football League.

But sadly the rift or power play between the club’s chairman and his management committee will disallow them to do so as expected.

The secretary with some of the management committee members were said to have resolved to officially inform the government following the chairman’s refusal to see reason and work with all of them and move the club forward.

Sani Ibrahim aka Coach, who is about to finish his PhD in Sports Management from the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria  has decided to tell the government the true situation of the team after several attempts to make the chairman see reasons and change by him and other stakeholders fell into his deaf ears.

www.sportseye.ng  gathered that the chairman’s failure to change his leadership style forced them to serially put all the club’s activities the chairman has executed singly without the board’s consent and approval from 23rd of June this year to date and forwarded them to the SSG.

Some of them, it was speculated that the committee were not happy with the way the chairman singlehandedly dissolved all the sub-committees they jointly made for easy running of the club.

The management committee was irked with the way the chairman singly entered into a deal with some companies in the state without their knowledge and approvals.

They raised eyebrows on the recruitment of technical crew for both Kano Pillars FC senior team, Kano Pillars FC junior team, Kano Pillars FC Under 15 and Kano Pillars Under 13.

They are particularly sad with the way and manner he made appointments without their approvals and also questioned the recruitment of supporting staffers of all the teams mentioned above.

The aggrieved management committee were not in the picture of how the chairman source and expended the funds he used and traveled to Asaba, Delta state for NNL Super Eight competition, the Bauchi trip and other trips.

The management committee were also not happy with the way the old players of Kano Pillars were sold to other clubs and were not in the picture of the exact amount raised for their transaction. They are also not aware of the amount of money paid on the players’ registration and transfer fees.

They are also not aware of the amount spent during the club’s first league match against Sunshine Stars FC of Osun state.

The committee are also not happy with the way the chairman is blocking them from knowing anything about the club. Even the gate takings collected from the club’s first home match last Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium was not revealed to them.

The letter accused the chairman of sidelining the genuine management committee appointed by the governor and working with a hired staff of the Sports Commission. The letter also pointed accusing fingers on the chairman for relocating the club’s secretariat to Sports Commission.

The letter is said to be well circulated as copies were made and distributed to all that matters.

Efforts to see the secretary for confirmation of the letter and its content failed as his phone was switched off.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
