    BUK holds 17th Inter-Faculty Games today

    The Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas and the university’s Director of Sports, Prof. Rabiu Muhammad cordially invite the university staff, students and the general public to the opening ceremony of the17th Inter-Faculty Games slated today at the Adamu Mu’azu stadium, BUK New Campus, Kano.

    According to an invitation letter which was mailed to this site yesterday by Prof. Rabiu Muhammad, the Director of Sport of the university, the ceremony will be declared open by the university’s Vice Chancellor at exactly 2.30 pm.

    But when called to shed more light on the event, Prof. Muhammad disclosed that all the 21 Faculties of the university are to participate in the games which will end in the next seven days.

    The university’s DOS further revealed that 13 sports events comprising five team games which include football, basketball, volleyball, handball and hockey are to be competed.

    Other games according to Prof. Muhammad include badminton, squash, tennis, table tennis and  Lawn tennis.

    The rest events are track and field in which athletes will compete in a number of events like running, jumping, throwing, long jump, triple jump, etc. 

    Prof. Rabiu Muhammad then thanked the VC of the University for his Unflinching Support which made today’s event possible.

    Towards achieving a hitch-free event, the BUK head of Sports Directorate then called on all the participating teams, the individual players together with their officials to cooperate with the officiating officials of their various games.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
