Conflict between Pillars and Sports Media over, says  Mai Samba

It is authoritative that the fire that is burning and smearing the good relationship between the management of the Kano Pillars FC and sports journalists in Kano for some times have been doused.

According to the team’s chairman, Ali Nayara Mai Samba, the dispute that had been raging between the two has been extinguished.

It is well known that the relationship between the two soured during the Kano Pillars Football Club and Niger Tornadoes FC match in the first round of the National Professional Football League.

Speaking to this website over phone talk, Mai Samba said that last Saturday, the management had convened a meeting in the Sani Abacha In-Door Hall with a few chosen sports journalists to discuss topics of mutual interest.

Mai Samba claims that based on their remarks, we have irritated and angered them for making it difficult for them to enter the stadium and carry out their duties.

“We recognize the root of the issues, and I also apologized on behalf of the club and assured them that it would never happen again.

“Since we are two interdependent entities, they depend on us for input and we depend on them for us to reach our goals by reaching out to many.

“There were numerous productive conversations between the two of us that helped us resolve our differences,” Mai Samba clarified.

The chairman further went on to say that the journalists will now receive complimentary tickets before to each match.

In addition to that, Ali Nayara Mai Samba added that going forward; from now on, one or two sports journalists will be a part of the team that will accompany the Kano Pillars FC to all of its remaining away matches.

According to reports, many in attendance were happy with the chairman’s remarks and pledged to help the team succeed.

Additionally, a small get-together party was arranged where the two parties dined to their satisfaction prior to the meeting’s conclusion, which began at noon.

However, as I previously stated, if the two leading Kano media figures, Abubakar Isa Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tanglash, who are both Kano sports journalists and members of the Kano Pillars Board, performed their duties effectively, the conflict between the two could be averted.

This was because the two should safeguard the interests of sports journalists by obtaining passes or complimentary tickets for them before to every game, as they are the Head and Assistant of the Kano Pillars Football Club’s Media Committee.

I don’t see why Yamalash and Tanglash shouldn’t defend their colleagues’ interests as well, especially when the commissioner and the club chairman, who are politicians, may make it simple for their constituents or supporters to enter the stadium.

However, I neglected to ask Mai Samba if this kindness will be extended to other stakeholders, such as coaches and former players.

Additionally, whenever Kano Pillars is playing at home, the two should receive preferential treatment too..

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
