    KASHIGA (Governor’s Cup) begins Tuesday

    Tuesday next week has been slated for the opening ceremony of the 11th Kano State Higher Institution Games popularly called (KASHIGA) www.sportseye.ng can authoritatively be revealed.

    According to an invitation letter which was mailed to this site, the competition which was tagged “Governor’s Cup 2024” is scheduled to take place at the Kano Pillars stadium, Sabon Gari, Kano between 3-6pm.

    “The chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 11th Edition of KASHIGA cordially invites you to the opening ceremony of the competition,” the invitation stated.

    And shading more lights on the event, the secretary of the competition’s local organizing committee, Jamilu Bello further added that about 18 institutions both private and public are to participate in the 10 days long competition

    “The competition will feature three sports events namely football, table tennis and badminton and will last for only 10 days,” Jamilu Bello explained.

    The secretary then disclosed that Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Federal University of Education Kano formerly (FCE Kano)  and Saadatu Rimi College  of Education are to serve as venues of the events.

    “The Honorable Commissioner of sports, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, Commissioner for Higher Education and all the heads of the participating institutions are expected to attend the competition’s opening ceremony”, Bello concluded.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
