    Kawo, 43 others appointed SSA to Kano Governor

    A popular and leading radio journalist in Kano, Muhammad Wasilu Kawo of Radio Nasara was among the 44 personalities that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state approved their appointment as Senior Special Assistants (SSA) to the governor of Kano state.

    Their appointment which was with immediate effect was contained in a release on 2nd Sept. 2023, titled: Kano State Governor Assigns Senior Special Reporters, Senior Reporters to MDAs was signed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.”In his efforts to provide access to information on policies, programmes and activities of the present administration, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment and subsequent deployment of 44 Social Media Activists to serve as Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs) to various Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs),” the release stated.

    Muhammad Wasilu Kawo, also a leading sports writer and presenter was named as a Special Reporter , Special Duties along with  Abba Zizu, Senior Special Reporter, Agriculture, Isma’il Alkassim, Special Reporter, Agriculture, Musa Garba (Jikan Oga), Senior Special Reporter, Budget and Planning, Bilal Musa Bakin Ruwa, Special Reporter , Budget and Planning, Auwal Dan-Ayagi, Senior Special Reporter, Commerce and Industry, Usman Abubakar Haske, Special Reporter , Commerce and Industry and Auwalu Yau Yusuf, Senior Special Reporter , Culture and Tourism.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
