The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has put on-hold all proceedings ahead of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA) elections which was scheduled for Monday, 22nd May, 2023.

In a letter signed by the Secretary FA Elections 2023 Monitoring Committee of NFF, Ali Abubakar Muhammad, dated 18th May, 2023, and addressed to the Secretary of Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA), Mr. Kufre Etukudo, the football body said that the action was necessary due to a petition lodged at the NFF Secretariat in respect of the elections.

The letter reads in parts, “I wish to inform you that there is a petition lodged at the NFF Secretariat in respect of the forthcoming elections into the Executive Board of your State Football Association.”

“In view of the above, I am directed to inform you that your election should be put on-hold for a while.”

“Further details would be communicated to you as soon as possible.”

It could be recalled that the immediate past secretary of Uyo Local Football Council, Hon. Edem Tom Okpon had petitioned the NFF through his lawyer, Ekanem Ekanem Esq. as well as approached the Federal High Court in Uyo to get injunction restraining the AKSFA from conducting the elections.

The court injunction notice was said to have been officially received by the AKSFA Secretary, Mr. Kufre Etukudo.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
