In an effort to improve cooperation in the battle against drug abuse, especially among youth, the commander also thanked the Barau Football Club’s management for making a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command.

During the visit, the club reaffirmed its commitment to using football as a platform to promote discipline, awareness, and positive lifestyle choices among youths.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss strategies for sensitization campaigns, community outreach programmes, and educational initiatives aimed at curbing the growing menace of drug abuse.1b

Barau FC emphasized that beyond football development, it sees youth empowerment and social responsibility as core priorities, while the NDLEA welcomed the partnership, noting that collective action from institutions like football clubs is critical in addressing the challenge at the grassroots level.

According to a statement signed by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, Director of Media of Barau Football Club, and forwarded to this site by the NDLEA’s Sports Director, Jamilu Uba Adamu, the Kano State Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), CN Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, received the delegation at the agency’s office.

The delegation was led by the club’s General Manager, Dominic Iorfa, alongside Vice President Kabiru Baita and Khalifa Rabiu, who represented the Club President. Coaches, officials, and players were also part of the visit, underscoring the club’s collective commitment to the initiative.

Speaking during the visit, the General Manager, Dominic Iorfa, commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for hosting the club, describing the command as a symbolic institution at the forefront of the fight against drug abuse in society.

He noted that the club would continue to provide a platform for the State Commandant to engage with players and supporters, particularly during matchdays, including facilitating access to games through ticket support for NDLEA representatives.

Iorfa also led the club in donating three newly branded jerseys and footballs to the agency, while reaffirming Barau FC’s commitment to working closely with the NDLEA in promoting awareness and combating drug abuse within the community.

In his remarks, the NDLEA Kano State Commandant, CN Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, commended the Grand Patron of Barau FC, Senator Barau Jibrin, for his unwavering commitment to the development of sports in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

He noted that such efforts play a vital role in shaping young talents, fostering discipline, and creating positive opportunities for the youth.

He further disclosed that the NDLEA has entered into a strategic partnership with Barau FC aimed at deepening youth engagement and expanding awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse.

According to him, the collaboration will also focus on mobilizing communities, promoting healthy lifestyles through sports, and strengthening collective action in the ongoing fight against substance abuse.

Also speaking during the visit, the Club’s Vice President, Kabiru Baita, expressed gratitude to the NDLEA for hosting the team, describing the gesture as a strong show of support and collaboration.

He commended the agency for its tireless efforts in tackling drug abuse, noting that their work continues to make a meaningful impact in safeguarding communities and guiding young people toward a more responsible and productive future.

Members of the delegation included the Club’s Technical Adviser, Eugene Agagbe; Assistant Coach, Rabiu Tata; Goalkeepers’ Coaches, Dahiru Dalhatu and Babangida Muhd; Physical Trainer, Sirajo Mukhtar; and the Club Secretary, Abubakar Jibrin.

Also present were members of the club’s media department, as well as support staff and drivers, all of whom accompanied the team on the visit.

Gifts were exchanged between both parties, symbolizing goodwill and strengthening the bond of cooperation.

Barau FC presented carefully chosen gifts, reflecting respect and appreciation, while the NDLEA Kano State Commander honored DSP Barau Jibrin with a prestigious award.1bcd

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
