Germany is presently hosting the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games from July 16–27. In 18 sports, there are more than 9,200 competitors from more than 100 nations.

The games are being held across multiple venues in the Rhine-Ruhr region, including Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, and Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Every two years, a different city hosts the FISU Summer World University Games. One of the biggest and most prominent multisport competitions in the world, FISU games used to attract thousands of student-athletes to compete.

Officials and a few athletes from Nigerian institutions are already in Germany for the competition.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian delegation at the ongoing FISU Games has praised the chairman of the National Sports Commission, Malam Shehu Dikko, for assisting NUGA in its sponsorship of this year’s event.

Speaking to this site via Whatsapp, Prof Musa Garba alias AA, an official on the trip, praised the NSC chairman for his support of their presence in Germany.

“We must thank Dikko because this is the first time NSC or the Sports Ministry is assisting NUGA in this regard,” he claimed.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
