The late Sagir Labaran, popularly known as Sagir Agi, needs little or no introduction within sporting circles, particularly in the football community of Kano State.
His name remained synonymous with dedication, passion, and an enduring commitment to the growth of the game at the grassroots and beyond.
Born and raised in the Darma area, behind Sheikh Musa Ali Gabari in Kano city, Sagir Agi grew up in an environment that nurtured his lifelong love for football.
He was also the brother of the late Kabiru Labaran, widely known as Chichi, further cementing his family’s deep connection to the local sports scene.

Sagir Agi passed away last Thursday at the age of over 80 after a prolonged illness. His death marks the end of an era, leaving behind not only an aged sister but also a legacy that will be remembered by generations of football enthusiasts in Kano.
During his lifetime, he was widely respected as a devoted football follower, organizer, and historian.
He was known for meticulously keeping records of football competitions, a rare and invaluable contribution that helped preserve the history of the game within the state.
On the pitch, Sagir Agi distinguished himself as a formidable and dependable defender in those days.
He was among the early notable players of the renowned Kano Pillars Football Club, where he earned admiration for his discipline and defensive prowess.
In addition, he played a significant role in the now-defunct Darma United Football Club, contributing both as a player and as a pillar of support for the team.
His life stood as a powerful testament to service, loyalty, and an unwavering passion for football.
Through years of dedication, he consistently demonstrated commitment to the growth of the game, earning respect for his integrity, sacrifices, and deep love for the sport.
His contributions reflected not just involvement, but a lifelong devotion to football as a unifying and uplifting force within the community.
Though he is no longer with us, Sagir Agi’s impact on the development and documentation of football in Kano State will not be forgotten.
