The 2026 Kano State Higher Institutions Games Staff Games finals were held in a colourful ceremony yesterday evening at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Northwest University Wins Football Final
Northwest University defeated the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, 3-1 in the football final to emerge champions of the competition.
The third-place match between FCAPT Hotoro and the College of Nursing did not hold after the College of Nursing failed to honour the fixture. As a result, FCAPT Hotoro was awarded third place.
Dignitaries Grace Finals
The finals attracted dignitaries from the education and sports sectors, including the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Tukur Babangida; the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar; and the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero.
Others were Dr Usman Zango, Deputy Provost (Academics), Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education; and Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Chairman of the Implementation Committee, Gaya Polytechnic, among others.

Tug of War
Bayero University Kano (BUK) emerged champions, while Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education finished second and Kano State Polytechnic took third place.
Walk Race
Northwest University claimed first place, followed by the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) in second position. Kano State Polytechnic and Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education shared third place after recording the same result.
100m Race
Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education emerged victorious, with FCAPT finishing second and Northwest University placing third.
