Kidney Patients send SOS to Governor AKY

Kidney patients receiving treatment at the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano have raised an urgent plea to the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to intervene in their worsening situation due to the breakdown of the hospital’s dialysis machine.

According to the patients who spoke to this site in large numbers, the breakdown of the hospital’s dialysis machines has left many of them stranded and in critical condition.

They bemoaned the fact that they are now forced to receive care at private institutions, where the high expense of each dialysis session is well beyond their means.

They claimed that several of them had already skipped crucial treatment appointments because of a lack of money, endangering their lives.

Many of the patients, who rely on daily dialysis to survive, described their current state as intolerable and life-threatening, according to our inquiry, and they urged the government to take immediate action to resume the facility’s operations.

The Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital is the sole urology hospital in the entire country and neighbouring countries, such as Niger, Cameroun, Benin, and others, and it has long been a key lifeline for hundreds of renal patients in Kano, neighbouring states, and even neighbouring countries.

However, the hospital is unable to provide for their medical needs due to the malfunctioning dialysis machines, which results in great anguish and uncertainty.

The patients urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to bring new dialysis machines and other necessary medical equipment to the hospital as soon as possible, expressing confidence in his dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery in the state.

They also called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the government’s efforts in alleviating their plight.

Our inquiry also revealed that the only government hospitals providing patients with timely and dependable dialysis are Abubakar Imam and two other hospitals, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Nasarawa Hospital.

And due to the Imam’s machine’s malfunction, patients and their families have been forced to seek out expensive alternatives in private hospitals, which many cannot afford.

As a result, the patients’ and their families’ financial and emotional burden keeps growing, necessitating the call to the Kano State Government’s intervention to give these individuals hope again.

According to our research, giving or providing the Abubakar Imam Urology Center new dialysis equipment will not only enhance the standard of service but also save many lives.

Our research also showed that “modern equipment will enable medical professionals to deliver efficient and timely treatment, reduce waiting times, overcrowding at other hospitals and minimize the risk of avoidable deaths among kidney patients.

It is a fact that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing human welfare and healthcare throughout Kano State.

The provision of new dialysis machines at the Urology Center should therefore be regarded as a top priority since it perfectly aligns with Governor Abba’s administration’s mission of promoting accessible and high-quality healthcare for all residents of Kano State.

When asked about the matter, Dr. Balarabe Umar Muhammad, the Chief Medical Director of the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, stated that the dialysis machines there were broken.

He went on to say that the hospital administration is making every effort to make these renal patients’ discomfort go away.

It is true that many kidney patients are visiting Abubakar Imam Hospital only to be directed to search elsewhere due to the hospital’s malfunctioning dialysis machines, Dr. Muhammad continued.

The CMD went on to say that his office had previously notified the government about the matter through the office of the honourable commissioner of health, and he promised that the government will soon offer assistance.
The hospital’s top administrator also voiced hope that the government will soon replace the facility to address the problem.

He commended the state government for the approval of the purchase of an ultrasound machine, which will be used to scan internal organs and other complex body components, was then commended.

Additionally, he disclosed another admirable action taken by the government when it authorized the hospital’s full solarization, which will surely increase the hospital’s security, especially at night.

Lastly, he praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the attention he has been providing to many sectors around the state in addition to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital and other medical facilities.
