Sponsorship/partnership: Why is Kano Pillars different?

Now that the management of Kano Pillars Football Club has shed more but not clear lights about the partnership it entered with Gongoni Ltd, the makers of Rambo Insecticide, one wonders why Kano Pillars sponsorships agreement is different from others?

While other teams are getting millions of naira from their sponsors, Kano Pillars are getting paltry amount which the club chairman, Babangida Little is shy to disclose.

Under normal or transparent situation, Kano Pillars FC contract with any company supposed to be higher than what any other club will get due to its large number of supporters and spectators.

We all know Kano Pillars used to have highest number of spectators anytime it is playing at home.

But from the release Kano Pillars issued from far away Lagos  to media houses through its Assistant Media Officer Mubarak Ismail Abubakar Madungurum which was dated 4, November 2023, one will doubt the sincerity of the management of the team on the subject matter.

This is because while Bendel Insurance FC got N70 million contract from Sterling Bank, Abia Warriors FC   N55 million from Eunisell deal, Akwa United FC signed N50 million contract with OneXEbet and Kwara United FC got N45 million contract with 22Bet.

All that the chairman Babangida Little told us was that the Partnership will last for two Year with an additional option of one year.

“Based on the agreement, the Company will provide Jersey and other training Kits for the Kano Darling Team as it has been the case in other climes”, he added.

The chairman only maintained in the release that, “it is just a tip of the iceberg as the team is looking for additional avenues aimed at lessening over dependence on Government”.

Although the chairman promised to give out the details of the deal when they are back from Lagos for their week seven league match.

Babangida Little must know that we are expecting a lot from him and the company he has signed the unspecified deal with.

He first needs to clearly tell us the total package of the deal which will make us know how much the club will be getting yearly, that is the first and second year of the deal from the company respectively.

We also need to know all the kits he mentioned that the team will get from the deal.

The chairman needs also to know we need to know how much is the  league board share from the package.

Something of this magnitude must not be done unknown. There is a need for a big press conferrence where journalists and other stakeholders will witnetness everything.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
