    Association of Retired Sports Men and Women debut in Kano

    The Association of Retired Nigerian Sports Men and Women (ARNSMW) in Kano State made its formal debut last week.

    Dr. Bashari Ahmad Maizare, the coordinator of the recently formed organization, respectfully invited all retired athletes and sports professionals to become members of the honorable organization, which he claims was created by the constitution to advance the welfare, acknowledgment, and ongoing significance of our historical heroes.

    Dr. Maizare further alluded to the many constitutional advantages that come with being a member of ARNSMW, including:

    Retired athletes can access welfare and support services. Recognition and inclusion in national sporting events and policies; Opportunities in sports development include empowerment, training, and advisory roles. Platform for unity, networking, and influence with other veterans and Participation in activities, rewards, and collaborations arranged by the association or government agencies.

    “Your presence and voice are vital to the growth and strength of this association. Together, we can ensure that the legacy and contributions of all retired sports men and women are respected, rewarded, and remembered,” he added.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
