It was a colorful and entertaining scenario as the much awaited  11th Kano State Higher Institution Games (KASHIGA) known as Governor’s Cup was officially declared open yesterday at the Kano Pillars Stadium.

The event which attracted a large turnout of spectators saw all the participating institutions (both public and private) and their officials in attendance. Nearly all the invited guests were in attendance or had their representations.

And immediately after the match-past was over, the opening match which was between Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) and Saadatu Rimi College of Education (SRCOE) Kumbotso was played and ended 1-1 draw.

The competition which has only three events namely football, table tennis and badminton continues this evening at the three designated centers which include Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Federal University of Education (FCE Kano)  and Saadatu Rimi College  of Education.

Keep a date for more on the event.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
