The Katsina State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development has challenged the management and technical crew of Katsina United FC to aim high in the forthcoming football season by competing for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title and securing a continental ticket.

According to Katsina United FC Media Directorate, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Engr. Surajo Yazeed Abukur, gave the charge while presiding over a crucial stakeholders’ meeting convened to review the club’s performance in the 2025/26 season and chart a strategic course for future success.

He emphasized the need for commitment, proper planning, and collective responsibility among all stakeholders to ensure that Katsina United emerges as a strong contender both domestically and on the continental stage.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Engr. Surajo Yazeed Abukur, said the meeting was convened to critically review Katsina United’s performance in the just-concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, assess the challenges encountered, and seek practical recommendations that will enhance the club’s fortunes in the coming campaign.

Engr. Abukur noted that the Katsina State Government has continued to provide the necessary support and conducive environment for the club to succeed.

He therefore called on the players, technical crew, and management officials to reciprocate the government’s commitment through greater dedication, discipline, and improved performance on and off the pitch.

The commissioner also commended the club’s interim management committee for guiding the team to a respectable ninth-place finish with 52 points despite the challenges of playing five home matches away in Kwara State.

He described the achievement as commendable, considering the difficult circumstances under which the team operated during the season.

According to him, the government is determined to address the issues that led to the temporary relocation of the team’s home matches and will put measures in place to prevent a recurrence.

He added that stakeholders must work collectively to develop strategies capable of transforming Katsina United into a title contender and achieving the targets set by the state government, including competing for domestic honours and securing a continental ticket.

Presenting the overview of the club, the Chairman/supervising coordinator Alh Surajo Malumfashi noted with satisfaction the position the club finished the season in and assured readiness with the support from the ministry and football stakeholders to reposition the club to achieve the set objectives.

On the performance of the club, Katsina United FC has played 38 matches, winning 14, drawing 10, and losing 14.

Statistically, the club recorded 12 home wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses, while in away matches, the club has registered 2 away wins, 6 draws, and 11 losses, respectively.

In their separate remarks, the stakeholders acknowledged the efforts and achievements of the club’s interim management committee, praising its resilience and commitment in steering the team through a challenging season.

They noted that the committee’s leadership played a significant role in helping the club maintain stability and secure a respectable finish in the league.

The stakeholders also offered a range of suggestions, recommendations, and strategic insights aimed at strengthening the club’s structure and improving its performance in the forthcoming season.

They expressed optimism that the implementation of these proposals would enhance the team’s competitiveness and help it achieve the objectives already set by the state government.

They further commended the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Engr. Surajo Yazeed Abukur, for convening the stakeholders’ meeting, describing the initiative as timely, proactive, and necessary.

According to them, the forum provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue among key stakeholders and could serve as a foundation for addressing many of the club’s longstanding challenges while laying the groundwork for sustained success.
