Former Kano State Director of Sports, Dr. Bashari Ahmed Maizare, was yesterday elected as the Vice President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN).

Dr. Maizare, who had earlier been elected as the Northwest Zone representative on October 25, 2025, in Kaduna, defeated Hajiya Zainab Saleh of AFAN by 9 votes to 6 in the election held in Abuja.

Before his retirement from service, the newly elected Vice President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, Dr. Bashari Ahmed Maizare, served as the Chairman of the Forum of Directors of Sports of Nigeria.

Prior to this new responsibility, Dr. Maizare held several key appointments and received numerous awards and recognitions both within and outside the state.

Barrister Bashari Ahmed Maizare served as the Resource Person and Facilitator at the Kano State Higher Institutions Games Association (KASHIGA) Symposium held on February 18, 2025, in Kano.

He was also appointed as the Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the proposed maiden edition of the National U-19 Football Nigeria Independence Cup 2025 on February 20, 2025, in Abuja.

In addition, Dr. Maizare was appointed as the Northwest Zonal Chairman of the Nigeria Association for Physical and Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER–SD) on July 3, 2025, in Abuja.

Bashir Maizare is also a Trustee of the Nigeria Tug of War Federation, a position he assumed on July 30, 2025, in Abuja. He further serves as the Secretary-General of the Society for the Promotion of Sports (SPS), appointed on August 18, 2025, in Abuja.

Additionally, Maizare holds the position of Secretary of the One Nation Grassroots Sports Network and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the proposed maiden edition of the President’s National U-19 Football Cup 2025, appointed on September 2, 2025, in Abuja.

He also serves as the Chairman and Coordinator of the Association of Nigeria Retired Sports Men and Women (Kano State Chapter), a role he was elected to on September 3, 2025, in Kano.

He also served as a member of the Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Cricket Federation Elections Board, appointed on September 20, 2025, in Abuja.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
