Governor Abba: Kano Pillars Board need your largess

Your Excellency Sir, we are all pleased and happy with the rapid and quick attention and intervention your administration is giving to sports, especially Kano Pillars Football Club.

We are happy that your administration has listened and responded quickly to our calls for the urgent need of the reconstitution of the board of Kano Pillars Football Club.

Sir, our calls for the urgent need for reconstitution of the board of Kano Pillars FC was necessitated because of the fact that the previous management of Kano Pillars has done its best by qualifying the club to the next and most dangerous stage of the Nigerian National League (NNL) competition.

I called the Super Eight the dangerous stage  because it is a stage where Kano Pillars must work hard and finish among the top four teams to qualify for the Premier League next football season.

And that is the prayers of all Kano people especially those following and supporting sports.

And if the team fails to emerge among the top four of the competition in Delta (Allah ya Kiyaye) it will be disastrous because  the team will stay and play another season in the lower division.

This is why we see it necessary and important to again call and appeal to you to approve a lump sum of money to the team so that they will do what is expected from them and qualify the team to Premier division.

Because we don’t want to hear any excuse for their failure to qualify for the Premier League at the end of the competition.

Sir, it may interest you to know that the curtain of most all football competitions in Nigeria were drawn, so, the Super Eight competition of the NNL is also the end of the football season.

Sir, I don’t know what the present board have in their budget, but the money you will approve of the Kano Pillars will see them through the Super Eight up to the beginning of the next football season.

While in Delta for the Super Eight, the team needs decent accommodation and feeding for both players, technical crew and their officials.

The new officials will also need money to pay winning bonuses for players and the technical crew and they will also need some money for fueling of their buses and other logistics.

Your Excellency Sir, the amount to be approved will also cover their new season players registration, facilitating the invitation of new players, engaging of players’ agents and their fees.

This is why the  team needs to recruit good players to beep-up the team in readiness for the next football season which is slated in the month of August or September this year.

The money approved will also cover the first and second weeks camping sites (Abuja and Lokoja probably or anywhere of their choice), payment of transfer fees of new players and playing tours.

The new management needs the money to purchase sports equipment as well as payment of bills and cards (red and yellow) fines accordingly.

Now that it is a few days to the commencement of the Super Eight, I appeal to His Excellency to release the money to the team  so that they will report in earnest and prepare for the battle ahead.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
