The management of Kano Pillars Football Club has appealed to the Disciplinary Committee  of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to reconsider its One Million Naira fine imposed on their team due to some crowd’s arena encroachment.

The incident occurred last Saturday during Kano Pillars FC week four league match against the visiting  Rivers United FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata Kano.

This was contained in a letter signed by Secretary of the club’s management board, Comrade Sani Ibrahim aka Coach and made available to www.sportseye.ng.

The secretary urged the committee to look critically into the matter with a view to temper justice with mercy as what transpired was not deliberate but co incidental which all human beings are bound to be imperfect.

“What precisely happened was over joy as the goal scored came in when nobody was expecting it hence the wild jubilation by all and sundry,” Kano Pillars scribe stated.

The secretary further pointed out that that kind of a situation can happen to every club. He highlighted that, it even occurred when Remo Stars FC battered Sporting of Lagos and fans trooped into the pitch to celebrate with the players.

“Thus, as one of the teams with large followers, we will continue to do our very best in controlling our fans.

“We will also be educating them to always adhere strictly to the spelt out rules and guidelines of the game as enshrined by the football governing body,” he said.

“As we await for the outcome of our plea for leniency, it is our fervent hope that the committee, being a group of men of integrity, will do the needful by rescinding their earlier decision which without mincing words will be in the interest of fairness, equality, justice and above all football development across the land,” the secretary concluded.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
