    Table Tennis Championship: Batande emerges  winner…takes  home N100,000 cash gift

    Mahamoud Batande last Sunday emerged winner of the 1st Kano State Table Tennis Championship which took place at the Black and White House, Ado Bayero Shopping Mall, Kano. 

    The championship which attracted over 30 participants from different parts of the state was organized by Alhaji Bashir Umar.

     The competition which attracted many individuals saw the first three collecting trophies, cash gifts and certificates.

    The overall winner went home with a trophy, certificate and cash gift of N100,000 plus Gold Medal. The second Usama Abdulmutallib received the sum of N50,000, a certificate and a Silver Medal while two players collected N30,000 cash for finishing third in the competition.

    Acting chairman of Kano State Sports Commission, Malam Ibrahim Umar Fagge aka FIFA was the special guest of the event.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
