Untold hardship: Kano Pillars players beg Gov Abba, Kwankwaso, Mai Samba

Players from the four junior teams of the Kano Pillars Football Club have pleaded with His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State; His sports commissioner, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the club chair, Ali Nayara Mai Samba, for assistance.

The Kano Pillars Junior squads made up of Junior Pillars, Under-19, Under-15, and Under-13 players petition the governor, his sports commissioner, and the club chairman to intervene on their behalf and alleviate the immense suffering they are going through.

According to their spokesperson, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed that the players from the aforementioned clubs are forced to work every day at their clubs’ training sessions with nothing at all to alleviate their suffering.

“As a matter of fact, we used to spend a lot of money traveling from our homes to our various training grounds, but the Kano Pillars FC management had nothing to show for our efforts,” he said.

The representative went on to say that, the club has not given them any sort of relief as a token of gratitude to the players for their efforts.

He added that although they do not anticipate receiving payment as salary from the team because they are minor, even a tiny gesture would have been welcomed and appreciated.

He then urged chairman Mai Samba, Commissioner Mustapha, and Governor Abba to assist them by authorizing whatever that would cover their additional costs and transportation.

He also urged Kano Pillars management to as a matter of urgency do something that will halt players’ exodus from the teams because Kano Pillars FC is losing players from its clubs to other teams free.

He then advised the club management to take action by creating something that will restrain the players’ movement free.

Due to his extremely busy line, all attempts to reach Ali Nayara Mai Samba, the chairman of the club at the time of going to press, were unsuccessful.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
