The Bayero University, Kano (BUK) female basketball team has continued their remarkable run at the ongoing 27th Nigeria University Games (NUGA) in Jos, sealing a well-deserved spot in the semi-finals after an emphatic 46–30 victory over Osun State University.

It was a masterclass in teamwork, precision, and resilience as the BUK ladies, under the tactical guidance of Coach Shuaibu Badway, dictated the tempo from start to finish. With flawless ball movement, sharp shooting, and solid defensive coordination, the team kept their opponents chasing shadows throughout all four quarters.

Fans at the University of Jos arena were treated to a thrilling performance that reflected the determination and hunger of a side eyeing nothing short of the gold medal. From fast breaks to commanding rebounds, the BUK ladies left no doubt about their intent to dominate the competition.

Coach Badway’s squad has now positioned itself as one of the favourites for the championship, with confidence soaring ahead of the semi-final clash. Their focus remains clear — to bring home the coveted gold and cement BUK’s place at the summit of university basketball in Nigeria.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
