    Nestlé Milo Basketball: 32 Secondary Schools set to compete in Kano

    Thirty-two secondary schools in Kano are set to compete in the state preliminaries of the upcoming Inter-Secondary Nestlé Milo Basketball Championship.

    The competition, featuring both boys’ and girls’ categories, is scheduled to take place on April 2nd and 3rd, 2026.1Diamond2

    According to a statement signed by Malam Kabiru Shehu, Head of School Sports at the Kano State Ministry of Education, the boys’ category of the tournament will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Sports Complex, while the girls’ category will take place at Government Girls College, Dala.

    Malam Kabiru Shehu stated that 17 secondary schools will compete in the boys’ category, including defending champions Ahmadiyya College, Science Academy Kuntau.

    The participating schools are: Government Secondary School, Sumaila, GSS, Bichi, GSS, Rano, GSS, Dambatta, Rumfa College, Army Day Bukavu, GSS, Sharada, GSS, Gwarzo, GSS, Tudun Wada, Government Teacher College, Ungogo, GSS, Bachirawa, GSS, Gwammaja, GSS, Mariri, Sani Bello Science, Dawakin Kudu, Kano Capital, and Gateway International.

    For the girls’ category, 15 secondary schools will converge at Government Girls College, Dala to compete for the championship.

    The participating schools include: Ahmadiyya College, GGC, Kano, GGC, Gezawa, Army Day Girls, Bukavu, GGSS, Maryam Aloma, GGSS, Sumaila, GGSS, Izazuddin, Kano Capital Girls, GGSS, First Lady, GGSS, Kwa, GGSS, Kura, GGSS, Jogana, and GGSS, Shekara.

    The head of schools sports, however, said that the winners for both boys and girls are to represent the state in the Savannah Conference while the eventual winners during the conference would also proceed to Lagos for the final stage of the competition.

    While commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state commissioner of education, Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda for their moral and financial support, he urged the participants to be good ambassadors to their respective schools.

    The final of the state preliminaries will hold at the indoor sports hall of Sani Abacha sports complex Kofar Mata on Saturday 4th. April. 2026.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
