Minna, the capital of Niger State and host of the ongoing second phase of the Nigerian Premier Basketball League, has received commendation for the quality of its facilities and the support provided to participating teams.

The competition, organized by the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) under the leadership of Alhaji Musa Kida, is part of the qualification process aimed at determining the top four teams that will advance to the Final Eight tournament scheduled for later in the year.

Speaking shortly after Kano Pillars Basketball Club’s impressive 97-82 victory over Bauchi Nets, the team’s Secretary, Bashir Musa, praised the hosting centre for its conducive environment and excellent organization.

According to him, Minna has remained peaceful and welcoming throughout the competition despite concerns and misconceptions in some quarters about insecurity in the area.

”Since we arrived Minna from Kano, we have enjoyed the conducive atmosphere. The facilities and security arrangements were superb,” he explained.

He noted that the facilities provided for the tournament have met expectations and contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the league, allowing players and officials to focus on the competition.

Musa also commended the Niger State Government, the organizers, and other stakeholders for creating an atmosphere that has enabled teams to compete under favorable conditions.

The NBBF Premier League second phase continues to gather momentum, with teams battling for crucial victories as they seek qualification for the Final Eight championship later this year.

The teams participating in the second phase of the Nigerian Premier Basketball League in Minna are Kano Pillars, Plateau Peaks of Jos, Bauchi Nets, Gombe Bulls, Aso Sky Hawks, City Chiefs of Abuja, Nile University Basketball Team, 313 Warriors, and the host side, Niger Potters of Minna.

The clubs are competing for places in the next stage of the competition as the race for qualification to the Final Eight tournament intensifies. Their presence has further boosted the excitement and competitiveness of the league, attracting basketball enthusiasts and stakeholders from across the country to Minna.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
