Twelve secondary schools in Kano State have successfully passed the screening exercise conducted ahead of the maiden edition of the Sam Okwaraji Memorial Football Championship.
The schools were cleared to participate after meeting the competition’s eligibility requirements, paving the way for what is expected to be a highly competitive and exciting tournament.

The championship, sponsored by the Sam Okwaraji Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF), is aimed at discovering and nurturing young football talents at the grassroots level while preserving the legacy of the late Nigerian football icon, Sam Okwaraji.
The winner will represent the state at the national final of the championship scheduled to hold later in the year.

According to the director of the schools sports of the state ministry of education, Kabiru Shehu, said that the successful schools include Rumfa College, Aminu Kano Commercial College, Kano Teachers College and Muhammad Vice Adamu secondary school.
He further explained that the rest are Government Secondary school, Gwale, Government Secondary school, Sharada, Sports Academy Kofar Nassarawa, Governor’s College, Government Secondary school, Sabuwar Kofa and Government Secondary school, Izazuddeen.
The director charged the participating schools to give the organisers all maximum support and cooperation towards a hitch free tournament.
While expressing appreciation to the state commissioner of education for his commitment and support, he assured that the school sports section of the ministry will continue to do their best towards the overall development of Various sporting activities in the state and the country at large.
