Last week in my write-up titled: “Celebrating our sports loving Governor@62. I joined the millions of Kano state populace and celebrated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for accomplishing a new age of 62 of his life.
I can distinctly remember supplicating and saluting the governor for his new age and furthermore wish him a lot more years in abundant health and enduring wealth.
Afterward, I recognized and thanked him for his commitment to sports improvement in the state, particularly his interests and steadfast help for Kano Pillars Football Club and different other games in the state.
I praised the governor for reconstituting another management for Kano Pillars Football Club which clearly carried mental soundness and harmony to the team.
I recalled pleading with him to increase funding for sports because of its many positive effects in people’s lives and the state as a whole.
This is because, in contrast to earlier time when sports were just viewed as a kind of recreation, sports now a source of employment and many more benefits. What this means is that sports are tremendously important to the people of the state and the state itself.
However, I erroneously neglected to express our gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for designating a commissioner tasked with overseeing sports as well as a special advisor for sports.
Honestly, most of us view the establishment of the two offices as a complete dedication to the sports industry and the state’s development; it truly meant a lot because sports is now fully represented in the State Executive Council.
Therefore, I say Kudos for that wonderful job. Only that study has demonstrated that the two offices or officers function solely as policy makers rather than as implementers.
We see the commissioner and the SA Sports as integral members of the executive team, forming the upper echelons of management within the realm of sports.
This indicates that the two officers, due to their training, are not equipped to be implementers and cannot generate the desired outcomes necessary to elevate sports to a more promising future in the state.
Therefore, to translate your good and progressive ideas into reality, the Kano State Sports Commission needs experienced and qualified sports administrators to turn your admirable and forward-thinking ideas into reality to accomplish what the governor wants in sports.
The Ministry of Sports Development can continue to exist and maintain its membership in the National Council on Sports Development in the nation, despite being abolished at the national level by the Federal Government and replaced by the National Sports Commission.
The ministry may still remain in charge of the state’s sports policies, with the Sports Commission serving as the implementation body.
That indicates their function or duty is only going to be supervisory and passing instructions to the commission and allows experts or professionals or technocrats to implement the top level management decision to reality.
But if the defined policies of the government are to be realized or implemented to the fullest it is the Kano State Sports Commission that should be responsible.
This is due to the fact that the commission is where the technocrats, specialists, and professionals I stated before are assembled in order to carry out the decision made by upper management.
This is due to the fact that the commission is where the technocrats, specialists, and professionals put together to work. Because professionals or specialists are just like doctors in the hospital or teachers in schools.
And achieve excellence n sports the commission organized various sporting competition locally to unearth our hidden talents all over the state.
I stated before, technocrats or professionals will be assembled in the commission in order to carry out the government decision by organizing competitions and also to ensure the success of the state in the all upcoming competitions, namely, National Sports Festival in Abeakuta, Ogun state and National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State as well as National Para Games in Abuja, FCT in 2025.
To most of us, where the defined policies of the government are realized or implemented to the fullest is the Kano State Sports Commission.
As their titles implies, they are a group of highly educated, skilled, and experienced individuals who know how to effectively carry out governmental choices in order to get the greatest possible outcome.
To perform its duties, the commission is anticipated to include a chairperson and nine members who are primarily experts, professionals or specialists in sports.
The commission is responsible of developing sports in the state through various competitions and also to ensure the success of the state in the all upcoming competitions, namely, National Sports Festival in Abeakuta, Ogun state and National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State as well as National Para Games in Abuja, FCT in 2025:
Its programmes and schedules will be:-
1. Talent Identification and Selection: Conduct talent identification programs in May and June 2025 to select athletes for the National Sports Festival, National Youth Games, and National Para Games.
2. Training and Coaching: Develop a training plan with experienced coaches, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, and mental preparation.
3. Competition Simulation: Organize simulation competitions to prepare athletes for the pressure and intensity of the actual events.
4. Camping and Team Bonding: Organize a training camp for selected athletes to foster team bonding, discipline, and focus.
Their schedules of trainings and trials will also be as follows:-
1. May-June 2025: Talent identification and selection programs
2. July-August 2025: Intensive training and coaching programs
3. September 2025: Final trials and selection for the National Youth Games
4. October-November 2025: Intensive training and coaching programs for the National Para Games
5. December 2025: Final preparations and departure for the National Para Games
Camping of Athletes will be another task of the commission.
1. Training Camp Venue: Select a suitable training camp venue with adequate facilities, including accommodation, dining, and training areas.
2. Camp Duration: Organize a 4-6 week training camp for selected athletes, focusing on intensive training, team bonding, and mental preparation.
3. Camp Activities: Include activities such as team-building exercises, motivational talks, and sports psychology sessions to enhance athletes’ mental toughness and focus.
Site Preparation is another hectic task of the commission.
1. Venue Inspection: Conduct a thorough inspection of the competition venues to identify potential challenges and opportunities.
2. Logistical Arrangements: Make necessary logistical arrangements, including transportation, accommodation, and equipment rental.
3. Contingency Planning: Develop a contingency plan to address potential challenges, such as weather conditions, injuries, or equipment failures.
By following the above comprehensive preparation plan, the Kano State Sports Commission can ensure that its athletes are well-prepared to achieve success in the upcoming National Sports Festival, National Youth Games, and National Para Games.
Other functions of the commission are Organizing Competitions; Coordinating local, national, and international competitions; Developing Sports Programs; Creating programs to promote sports development, including training and talent identification initiatives; Collaborating with Stakeholders; Working with local governments, schools, clubs, and other stakeholders to promote sports development.
With the above, His Excellency will undoubtedly be aware of the fact that the commission still has a lot of work to do in order to meet its desired goals.
Therefore, all the governor needs to do is scan the area, find competent hands, and assign the task of heading the commission to them.
The governor may rely on the many sports experts, professionals, and technocrats that Kano State has to offer, as I indicated in one of my previous writings. Not to mention the thousands of people with bachelor’s degrees in sports, we have professors of sports as well as PhD and MSc holders.
His Excellency only needs to appoint the persons he can trust—among those I indicated above or more—and give them the commission in order to observe miracles.
