Kano Pillars: Final words before crucial Plateau United FC encounter

I heard a variety of conversations regarding Kano Pillars F.C. and their prospects of avoiding relegation to a lower league at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Regarding whether the squad can truly survive the drop, many fans, pundits, and football lovers have voiced differing perspectives.

While some remain optimistic, believing that Kano Pillars have the experience, pedigree, and resilience to turn things around, others are concerned that the club’s inconsistent performances and failure to secure crucial points could place them in serious danger.

As one of Nigeria’s most respected football clubs, Kano Pillars carry a proud history and a passionate fan base that expects nothing less than top-flight football.

However, reputation alone cannot guarantee survival. The players, coaching crew, and management must rise to the challenge by showing greater commitment, tactical discipline, and determination in the remaining one match which is away against Plateau United.

They should all know that escaping relegation will require more than hope, it will demand unity, strategic planning, and maximum effort from everyone associated with the club. They should understand that nothing comes easy, which explains the visitors’ expected full-scale onslaught against the hosts.

With the right response and strong support from their fans, Kano Pillars may still have a realistic chance of retaining their place and avoiding the disappointment of relegation.

The players, too, need to go the extra mile by giving not only their very best but also showing exceptional determination and fighting spirit to overcome their hosts, who, I understand, are equally desperate for the points at stake in their own battle to escape relegation.

This makes the encounter even more challenging, as both teams will be approaching the match with a sense of urgency and desperation.

For Kano Pillars F.C., it means every player must demonstrate courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment throughout the game. In matches of this nature, mental strength, teamwork, and the ability to seize crucial moments can make all the difference.

If the players can rise to the occasion and play with passion and purpose, they may secure the vital result needed to boost their survival hopes and reassure their loyal supporters.

The management, however, carries an even greater responsibility at this critical stage.

They are expected to act decisively, make timely and strategic decisions, and ensure that every necessary support system is put in place to strengthen the team’s performance.

This includes effective planning, proper coordination, and swift responses to emerging challenges, all aimed at improving the club’s chances of achieving its objectives.

They must go the extra mile by engaging the government and other critical stakeholders for additional support and funding, not only to ensure the team is adequately prepared for its remaining matches, but also to strengthen every aspect of the club’s operations during this crucial period.

We all know that success in the Nigerian league is not determined only on the pitch, but also by activities behind the scenes.

The management therefore needs to go the extra mile and take all necessary steps to ensure the team is properly supported, so it can secure survival and avoid relegation.

Beyond finances, the management must provide the technical crew and players with the right motivation, logistics, and a stable environment to focus fully on the task ahead.

At a time like this, strong leadership, sound planning, and timely intervention can make a significant difference.

For Kano Pillars F.C., survival will depend not only on what happens on the pitch, but also on how effectively the management mobilizes support within and outside, inspires confidence, and creates the conditions necessary for success.

Everyone must play their part to ensure the club retains its place and preserves its proud legacy.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
